Trying to decide between JAL and ANA for a multi city trip: SYD–HND–CDG, then CDG–HND and HND–SYD.
Pricing right now is about $3092 on JAL vs $2350 on ANA, so roughly a $740 difference.
ANA would be 787-9 on all legs in a 3-3-3 layout. JAL would be A350 on the CDG legs (also 3-3-3) and 787-9 on the SYD legs with the 2-3-2 config, which is a bit more appealing seat-wise.
I’ve flown ANA on a similar routing before and it was totally fine, but I keep hearing JAL is better overall in economy, especially food and service. Free wifi isn’t a dealbreaker, but it’s a nice bonus.
There are also some softer factors:
I prefer CDG T2E over T1 and HND T3 over T2, which lines up better with JAL
JAL earns Qantas points and status credits for me, whereas ANA wouldn’t
For those who’ve flown both recently, is JAL economy really that much better to justify the extra cost? Or is ANA the smarter value play here?
