I’ll be traveling in Italy on 16 May 2026 and saw an official notice about a 48-hour nationwide strike covering both public and private sectors, including rail and maritime transport.
The notice mentions a general strike affecting the entire railway sector across the country.
I’m trying to understand whether this will also impact private train operators like Italo, since I have a Rome to Naples ticket booked for that day.
I also noticed that Italo is still selling tickets for 16 May. Does this mean trains are expected to run normally, or could there still be cancellations due to the strike?
If anyone has experience with similar nationwide rail strikes in Italy, I’d really appreciate some insight.
