I’ve read a few discussions already, but I’d like some clarity on handling a long layover at Istanbul Airport.
I’m a US passport holder arriving in Istanbul at 2 PM in business class, with a 17-hour layover before a 7:30 AM flight to Athens. The plan is to stay at Yotel, leave luggage there, and go into the city for sightseeing rather than using the airline’s organized tours.
Instead of relying on Turkish Airlines’ tour options, I’d prefer to explore independently—either by hiring a guide or navigating on our own. The idea is to return to the airport around 10–11 PM.
The main question is whether to book the Yotel airside or landside. Airside seems more convenient for the morning departure, but I’m unsure if I’ll be allowed back through security that early (around 9 hours before the flight). Landside seems more flexible, especially since business class passengers can usually get through security and immigration quickly.
Looking for advice on which option is more practical and whether re-entering security that early would be an issue.
