Is Versailles worth going without going inside?

Thinking of doing a last-minute trip to Versailles with my girlfriend, but the ticket prices we’re seeing are kind of crazy.

Wondering if it’s still worth going just to walk around the gardens and see the outside, or if you really need to go inside to make it worth it.
