Is there a real difference between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines on Maui routes?

I recently flew Alaska Airlines from Maui to Seattle and as usual it was a decent experience since I fly Alaska fairly often across different routes.

However I have not flown Hawaiian Airlines in years. My uncle who exclusively flies Hawaiian said the recent Maui to Seattle flight on Alaska was the worst aircraft he has ever been on.

This made me wonder if there is actually a meaningful difference between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines on these inter-island or West Coast routes especially now that Alaska operates or partners more closely with Hawaiian.

For those who have flown both recently do you notice a real difference in aircraft quality seating service or overall experience? Or is it mostly just route or aircraft variation rather than the airline itself?
