Hi everyone,
I have an upcoming flight from the US to Mexico and I noticed what looks like a skiplagging opportunity that could save a significant number of Delta SkyMiles on a one-way booking.
For context, the options I’m seeing are:
Direct flight to MEX: 22,000 SkyMiles
Flight to CUN with a layover in MEX: 12,000 SkyMiles
The layover flight uses the exact same segment into Mexico City, so I would essentially be on the same plane for that leg anyway.
I’ve never used skiplagging before, and I also wouldn’t be checking any bags, so in theory it seems straightforward. However, I’m wondering if there are any important downsides or risks I might be overlooking.
It feels like a clear saving of about 10,000 SkyMiles, but I’m not sure if there are airline policy issues, account risks, or operational complications I should consider.
Would appreciate any advice or experience from people who have done this before.
