My transatlantic United flight is less than 24 hours away and I am currently booked in economy using miles.
United is showing an upgrade to Premium Economy for around 300,000 miles, which feels extremely high. However, if I try to book Premium Economy as a new ticket, it is only around 85,000 miles. Polaris is already fully booked.
I have two main questions:
If I cancel my current award ticket within 24 hours of departure and before check-in, will I still get my miles refunded?
Is Premium Economy generally worth 85,000 miles for a long haul flight like this, or is that poor value?
I am also wondering if there is any realistic chance the upgrade price drops closer to departure.
I have been flying Polaris on recent trips, so going back to economy for a long haul is making me reconsider my options.
