Is a 5–7 Billing Cycle Refund Timeline Normal?

My return flight with United was canceled about two weeks ago. Since I chose not to rebook with the airline, I received a text stating that I'd automatically receive a refund if I didn't select another United flight within five days.

So far, nothing has appeared on my credit card.

When I tried using United's refund portal, I couldn't select the canceled portion of my itinerary, so I contacted customer support instead. At first, they incorrectly told me I wasn't eligible because the cancellation wasn't caused by United. After I explained that a refund was still due for the unused flight, they confirmed the Refund Department had approved it.

The confusing part is the timeline. One representative said I should expect the refund within 2–3 billing cycles, but a later email stated it could take 5–7 billing cycles to appear on my credit card statement. That seems unusually long, potentially several months.

Has anyone else been given a similar timeframe? Is that standard for United refunds, or should I be following up further?
