I’m flying into Istanbul from Chicago and land around 5:45 AM. My connecting flight to Şırnak departs at 8:10 AM.
The issue is that I need to collect my checked bags in Istanbul and then recheck them for the domestic flight. I’m worried because the connection time is only about 2 hours and 15 minutes.
For anyone familiar with Istanbul Airport:
Is that usually enough time to clear baggage claim, recheck luggage, and get through security again?
How long does the domestic transfer process normally take early in the morning?
My biggest concern is the baggage situation. If the bags miss the flight, I understand the airline could send them later to Şırnak, but that would be really difficult for me because I don’t actually live there. I’m continuing onward by car into Iraq after landing.
Would appreciate any advice or experiences from people who have done a similar international-to-domestic connection through Istanbul.
