Booked 5 business class tickets on AF0023 LAX to CDG for Dec 20. Booked months in advance. Air France cancelled the flight the day before and never even notified me. I only found out because friends on the same flight got an email.
Called AF right away and they rebooked us on Lufthansa SFO–MUC–CDG, assuring us all 5 seats were business. Boarding passes showed “waitlist business” which made me nervous, but both Lufthansa phone support and check in staff told us we were fine.
About an hour before boarding we finally got business class seats… then right as we’re lining up to board, Lufthansa pulls me aside and tells me I’m being downgraded to premium economy due to a seat issue. Their explanation was basically that because AF rebooked us the day before, the system treated us as last minute and I lost the seat.
They told me not to worry, that notes were added and I’d get the fare difference refunded after the flight. I ended up alone in premium economy while the rest of my family stayed in business, which sucked on their first Europe trip.
After the flight, Lufthansa told me to contact Air France since AF issued the ticket. Now AF is asking for my boarding pass, which I don’t have. Lufthansa never told me I’d need to keep it and said everything was noted in their system. I even sent AF a photo of my premium economy seat, but they’re still pushing back.
It’s been over a week now. No refund. No clear answers. All of this started because AF cancelled the original flight in the first place.
