InterContinental Alpensia ignored guaranteed late checkout, Diamond and Ambassador feel pointless

Just a heads up for anyone considering InterContinental Alpensia, especially if you’re going to ski. I’m Diamond and Ambassador and was told multiple times by IHG support that late checkout is guaranteed. Confirmed it well before booking and again a week before arrival. Planned a full week of ski lessons around it.


Got there and it turns out the hotel had zero intention of honoring it. They literally had pre printed cards ready to hand out with a few points as an apology. That doesn’t come close to covering the mess it caused. Had to rearrange transport, reschedule an expensive drive back to Seoul, and adjust airport plans.


What really annoyed me is the disconnect. IHG corporate support confidently promises things that some franchise properties clearly never plan to honor. Feels like being lied to, then brushed off with points when it blows up your plans.


For contrast, InterContinental Osaka was great. Lounge access, late checkout honored, no drama at all. So this feels very property specific.


If late checkout matters to you, especially for skiing or relaxing, I wouldn’t rely on any guarantees at Alpensia. At this point Diamond and Ambassador don’t feel worth it here. Honestly would rather stick with Hyatt or Marriott.
