My wife and I are about to inherit a Holiday Inn Vacation Club timeshare from her parents. They can’t travel anymore due to health reasons. It’s in the points program now, around 700k points, Premier Platinum. They had it for over 20 years and definitely used it a lot.
We’ve traveled with them many times and honestly enjoyed it, especially now that we have a 3 year old. Having space, a kitchen, and separate bedrooms has been great compared to booking regular hotels.
From what we understand, my wife is already on the deed and all we’d be responsible for going forward are the maintenance fees starting next year. No upfront buy-in costs for us, which I know were huge for them back in the day.
Some people keep telling me “don’t do it,” mainly because it’s a bill and not a typical inheritance. Fair point. But if we use it a couple times a year, it feels like it could make sense given how expensive family-friendly hotels are.
