A lot of people who’ve made this switch say the same thing. Hyatt properties tend to be more consistent, and when something goes wrong, service recovery is usually better. The footprint is smaller than Hilton, but the quality control feels tighter.
The loyalty program is also more straightforward. Points still have real value, elite benefits are clearer, and status actually feels meaningful. With 60 to 80 nights a year, you’d hit Globalist pretty easily, which is where Hyatt really shines.
Using your American status to start at Explorist is a nice head start, but honestly you’ll fly past that quickly. If most of your travel is domestic and Hyatt has coverage where you go, it’s worth trying for a year.
A lot of former Hilton Diamonds don’t look back.
