I worked in the Maldives for years, and honestly, the resort scene is just one side of it. If you want something more real and cheaper, check out Feydhoo in Addu City. It’s where locals actually live in in guesthouses, peaceful walks to nearby islets through the shallow sea, and even beach camping under the stars. No butler service, but no tourist prices either.
