I was in Midtown Manhattan last night, just a few blocks from the chaos at 345 Park Avenue, when shots rang out. A 27-year-old man in body armor opened fire with an M4 rifle, killing four people, including an off-duty NYPD officer, and injuring another. He later took his own life on the 33rd floor of the building, which houses offices like Blackstone and the NFL. The entire area was on lockdown, I saw people crying, hiding behind cars, and dozens of emergency vehicles swarming the scene. It was a terrifying reminder that even in the most iconic, bustling places, things can go wrong fast.
If you're traveling in NYC, please stay alert and aware of your surroundings. I never imagined something like this could happen so close. How do you all feel about safety while traveling in big cities? Do you take any precautions? I'd really like to hear your thoughts.
