During my recent trip through San Francisco, I hopped in a Waymo on Market Street, yep, they’re back! The ride was surprisingly smooth, and skipping the usual parking chaos downtown was a real perk. SF is now allowing Waymo and a few Uber/Lyft Black cars to operate there during off-peak hours as part of a push to revive the area’s economy. I used it to get from Civic Center to the Ferry Building, and it was oddly peaceful for a robo-taxi.
That said, I get why safety advocates are uneasy. Market was closed to private cars in 2020 for pedestrian safety, and this might reverse some progress. Still, for visitors and solo explorers like me, it definitely adds convenience. Anyone else tried these new Market Street rides? Curious to hear your experiences.
