recently heard from someone connected to United’s headquarters that the airline may be exploring a new economy seating product that would include a permanently blocked middle seat.
From what I was told, this concept could debut on the Airbus A321XLR and possibly future Coastliner aircraft. The idea is reportedly being considered as a way to align cabin layouts with minimum flight attendant staffing requirements while avoiding the need for additional crew members.
At this stage, it appears to be an internal concept rather than an announced product, but it would be an interesting change if it eventually moves forward.
