Last Sunday of the shutdown was chaos at ORD. Gates changing nonstop, crowds everywhere, everyone exhausted. In the middle of trying to make it to yet another new gate, my backpack threw off my balance and I went face first onto the tile. Glasses smashed, forehead split open.
Two women jumped in instantly, one a paramedic and one who said she works in cosmetic surgery. They kept pressure on the cut, kept me calm, and called for help. The paramedics got to the right gate somehow, got me downstairs to the ambulance, and brought my husband and bags with us.
After getting stitched up, the medic told us exactly what to bring to the United counter to get reticketed, which took a huge weight off. The ORD United team rebooked us on the first flight they could and set us up with a discounted hotel for the night. Our bags had flown ahead and they locked them up safely until we arrived.
Came home with a concussion and a stitched forehead, but I’m seriously grateful to everyone who helped.
