I recently visited Rome and was riding an ATAC bus when inspectors approached me before I had a chance to validate or purchase a ticket via Tap & Go. They asked for my ID and issued me a fine on the spot.
I chose not to pay immediately so I could understand my options and check whether I could appeal. The notice mentioned that a 50% reduced payment is available if paid within 5 days of issuance.
After returning home, I’ve been trying to pay the fine online, but I keep running into issues. The payment process either fails after scanning the QR code, doesn’t proceed after entering card details, or requires an email confirmation that never arrives. Even when I receive and enter the SMS verification code, the system still rejects the payment.
I’m looking for guidance on how to successfully complete the payment or alternative methods to pay this fine. I’m also concerned about potential consequences if I’m unable to pay within the given timeframe.
Has anyone dealt with a similar ATAC fine and managed to resolve payment issues?
