Because the New York City subway runs 24 hours a day, planned station closures on weekends are used as limited maintenance windows. During these short shutdown periods, the MTA’s internal “Station REVIVE” teams step in to carry out repairs and deep cleaning within roughly a 55-hour timeframe when stations are not in service.
This allows work to be completed efficiently without disrupting daily operations.
It is also noted that this REVIVE initiative is separate from the Mobile Wash Unit program, which performs deeper cleaning of underground stations approximately every 35 days.
