How does Hilton’s fifth night free benefit work when one night costs more points?

I have a question about Hilton’s fifth night free reward benefit when booking with points.

For example, if the first four nights cost 50k points each, but the fifth night costs 100k points, how is the discount actually applied?

Does Hilton literally make the fifth night free even if it’s the most expensive night? Or do they instead remove one of the cheaper nights? Another possibility I wondered about is whether they just average the total and apply an overall 20% reduction across the stay.

I don’t currently have enough points in my account to test it myself, so I was hoping someone here might know how Hilton calculates it in practice.
