How do IHG food and beverage rewards work from the hotel’s side?

I use IHG mainly for lounge access and food and beverage rewards, and I currently have a bunch of F&B rewards to use. As a guest, it’s obviously great, but I’m curious how this works behind the scenes for the hotel.

When I use food and beverage rewards, does the hotel get reimbursed by IHG for each reward, or are they basically eating the cost? For example, on my last stay I used 9 F&B rewards. Does IHG refund the hotel for those, or does the hotel take a hit of 9 x ~580 THB / $20?

I’m genuinely curious whether hotels are happy to accept these rewards, or if they quietly hate them because they lose money on them.

Would love insight from anyone who works at an IHG property or knows how this is handled internally.
