Hotel is trying to cancel my $45 rate and force $170 instead. Can they do that?

Booked a room four days ago for the week before Christmas at a brand new hotel. Rate was $45 a night. Looked cheap, so I double checked by booking directly on the hotel brand’s own website. Same price, non refundable after 24 hours, so I locked it in.

Today I get an email from the local hotel saying the rate was a mistake and they either want $170 a night or they’ll cancel my reservation. Turns out it’s a franchise location, not corporate owned. This is in California if that matters.

What bugs me is if I tried to cancel a non refundable booking after four days, they’d tell me too bad. But they can just decide not to honor it?

Has anyone actually gotten a hotel to honor an obvious pricing error like this, or am I basically out of luck unless corporate steps in?
