Hotel in Turkey charging £1200 for broken window, what should my mum do?

My mum’s on holiday in Turkey and accidentally hit the patio door with her mobility scooter. The hotel made her pay £1200 on the spot and only gave a handwritten receipt that says “Broken window payment.”


She’s contacted her travel insurance and they’re sending a claim form, but will that simple note be enough proof for the claim? Do hotels normally make guests pay upfront like that?
