Rented a car at Houston IAH through Thrifty after booking a cheap add-on through Spirit. Line was slow, the counter staff were joking around, and when it was finally my turn the agent tried to sell me gas and then pushed hard on insurance. I said no, but she kept insisting I couldn’t take the car without their coverage. Ended up being charged around 37 a day for a loss damage waiver I didn’t want.
Gas price she quoted was fake too. First station outside the airport was cheaper.
Tried calling to remove the insurance and they told me the only option was to drive all the way back to the airport. Three hours away. So I waited until dropoff, talked to a manager, got bounced around, and basically got stonewalled until I had to leave for my flight.
Filed a complaint later and finally got refunded for the insurance, but the whole thing felt shady from start to finish.
