It finally happened. I scored a huge reward after volunteering my seat on an oversold United flight!
When I checked in this morning for my BOS to SFO flight, I was immediately given the option to switch to another flight for 7,500 MileagePlus miles or add myself to the volunteer list.
Thinking the flight was probably oversold, I decided to take a chance and submitted a high bid of 100,000 MileagePlus miles or a $2,000 Electronic Travel Certificate.
It worked. United needed my seat, moved me to a later flight, and accepted my bid.
This is the first time I've ever been selected after volunteering, and I'm excited it finally happened. Whenever I get the choice, I always go with MileagePlus miles instead of a travel certificate because I like redeeming them for Saver Award Polaris tickets.
