Been mostly an airline points person and only recently started caring about hotel loyalty. Grew up very frugal so hotels were always just a place to sleep. Clean room, hot water, that’s it.
Lately though, I’m in a spot where I can splurge a bit more, either for my parents or when I’m solo traveling. I’ve stuck with Hilton mostly because I already have points there and zero Hyatt points.
But the more I look at Hyatt redemptions, the more confused I get. The points needed are way lower than Hilton for what seem like similar or even nicer properties. At first I even thought Hyatt didn’t care about number of guests for standard rooms, though that might’ve just been a glitch on my end.
Ignoring footprint and availability differences, is there a real reason to choose Hilton over Hyatt? I feel like Hyatt points are just objectively more valuable, so I’m wondering what tradeoff I’m not seeing yet.
Curious what people who’ve played both sides think.
