Hidden sunrise spot in Banff that helped me avoid the crazy summer crowds

Hey wanderers, this CBC News article on Banff traffic really hit home, reminding me of my epic adventure there this summer. I was one of those 1.76 million vehicles crawling into town, but quickly learned my lesson after spending two hours in bumper-to-bumper traffic on my first morning. The congestion was unlike anything I'd seen before in my mountain town visits, with cars stretching as far as the eye could see. But this challenge led to one of my favorite travel discoveries.

After that first frustrating day, I completely changed my strategy. I started heading out at 4:30 AM, well before sunrise, and discovered this magical viewpoint off Tunnel Mountain Road where I could watch the sun paint the peaks in total solitude. While everyone else was stuck in traffic at 9 AM, I'd already had my coffee at Wild Flour Bakery, hiked part of Sulphur Mountain, and was ready for a midday siesta. My biggest tip: treat Banff like those popular European destinations where early morning exploration is your best friend. The pre-dawn quietness of the town became my favorite part of the whole trip.
