I had a business trip itinerary where I was originally planning to fly back home to the US.
Instead of going straight home, I checked what it would cost to reroute and fly from Osaka to Manila first, since I have a business meeting there, and then continue home to Cleveland afterward.
When I priced it out through the change option, the total difference shown was only about $153.
For comparison, if I were to skip the return segment entirely and just book a one-way flight from Manila to Cleveland separately, it comes out to around $1,393, and even the “do nothing and miss the segment” option would still cost more overall.
It feels like one of those cases where airline pricing logic works out in a surprisingly favorable way, but I am not fully sure if I am understanding it correctly.
Has anyone else seen similar pricing anomalies when changing multi-leg international itineraries?
