Short answer: BA isn’t uniquely terrible with luggage. But Heathrow connections are where bags go to test your patience.
When you connect through LHR, especially on separate legs like BA to Iberia or mixed handling, there are more chances for a misconnect. Tight transfer times, terminal changes, different ground handlers… that’s usually where things go wrong.
The fact that one of your two bags made it and the other didn’t points more to a connection issue than systemic “BA always loses bags.”
Most “lost” bags are actually delayed and turn up within a few days. Truly permanent loss is rarer than it feels in the moment.
Heathrow + connection + different operating carriers is the bigger red flag, not BA specifically.
