After a 12-hour delay, I ended up getting randomly sent through the full-body scanner even though I have Clear and PreCheck. The scan flagged my groin area (probably because of jeans buttons or my paper boarding pass), so the agent said he’d have to pat me down “with the back of his hands.”
But instead, he used the front of his hands and even went inside my waistband all right there in public. It only lasted maybe 30 seconds, but I definitely wasn’t expecting that, especially after being told something different.
I get that they have a job to do, but the lack of clear communication made it really uncomfortable. Is this kind of search normal when the scanner flags something?
