Landed in Delhi and planned to take the metro to New Delhi station, then walk to my hotel in Paharganj. On the overpass, a guy stopped me saying it was “one-way only” and I couldn’t walk there without a train ticket. He told me to go downstairs.
Down on the street, another guy claimed I needed a “tourist pass” to enter Paharganj because of some made-up holiday and offered to take me to a “tourist office.” Total scam. I bailed, grabbed a tuk tuk, and still overpaid 200 rupees just to get to my place.
What’s the best way to handle these situations? Just ignore anyone who stops you unless they’re clearly in uniform?
