I checked a Delta flight for July and noticed it had been rebooked due to a very small schedule change (about 8 minutes). While exploring options, I tried changing the itinerary to different regional airports to avoid long drives.
Surprisingly, the system allowed me to rebook both outbound and return flights at no extra cost. Even when I compared fares today, the new routing would normally be about $1,000 more expensive.
The changes included different departure and arrival airports, and I was still able to keep my original fare class without paying a difference. Later, I called Delta for clarification, and the agent seemed unsure how I was able to do it, but confirmed everything was valid and said they honor system-generated changes.
Is this a known benefit when there are schedule changes, or was this just a rare pricing or rebooking glitch?
