The fact it had your reservation details and name is what makes people lower their guard. Once it looks personalized, you stop questioning it. And getting it in your own language just makes it feel even more legit.

Best rule now is exactly what you said: never click payment links from texts or WhatsApp. Always go directly into the Booking app or the property’s official site. If payment is really needed, it’ll show there too.
These scammers are clearly pulling info from somewhere, and they’re getting better at it.
