I saw this story and honestly… that is some next level airline luck.
Guy volunteers to give up his seat on a PHX to MIA flight for $300. Gate agent says whatever the last volunteer gets, everyone gets. It climbed all the way to $2000 and he got the full amount.
Then it gets even crazier. They rebook him on another flight an hour later… which was also oversold. Agent suggests he volunteer again, stay overnight with a hotel, and try again. He does it and gets another $1200 travel credit.
AA covered the hotel and Uber too.
So he ends up flying the next day in a middle seat but with $3200 in travel credit. Honestly I’d take that deal in a heartbeat.
