Global Entry at SFO felt pointless. Is this normal?

Just arrived at SFO and used Global Entry. Took my photo at the kiosk, got the OK, then all Global Entry passengers (around 50–60 of us) were herded into a long back and forth line to speak with one of two immigration officers. We still had to show passports and answer the usual declaration questions.

Meanwhile, the non Global Entry lines honestly looked shorter and were moving faster.

Isn’t the whole point of Global Entry to skip this and get through quicker than everyone else? Or is this just an SFO thing / bad timing? Curious if others have had the same experience.
