I’m trying to understand a situation involving my girlfriend and would appreciate any advice or similar experiences.
She works in Hong Kong under the General Employment Policy and recently traveled back to Vietnam for a wedding. When she tried to return from Da Nang, the airline refused to let her board, saying the document in her passport showing her permitted stay was not a valid entry permit.
She tried explaining her situation, but they didn’t accept it, and now she’s stuck in Vietnam needing to get back to Hong Kong for work.
From what I found on the Hong Kong immigration website, it seems that non-permanent residents under this scheme don’t need a re-entry visa as long as their permitted stay is still valid and their employment status hasn’t changed. Based on that, it sounds like she should have been allowed to travel and re-enter without issues.
However, the information online is inconsistent, which is making things confusing. She is considering applying for an expedited tourist visa, but is concerned it might affect her current work status or create problems with her immigration record.
We plan to contact Hong Kong immigration directly, but in the meantime, has anyone experienced something similar? Any insight into how this should work or what steps to take next would be really helpful.
