GF broke up 10 days before our Colombia trip. Now I’m stuck with the bill and not sure what to do.

This sucks, but trying to think clearly and could use some outside brains.

My girlfriend and I broke up last night. We had a one week Colombia trip booked for Christmas week through Expedia. Flights and hotel package. I paid for everything. Total was about $2,600 and she never sent me her half.

Spending Christmas week alone in a nice hotel that was supposed to be a couples trip sounds pretty depressing. She even said she would still want to go, which feels insane to me.

I talked to my brother and he might be down to come instead, but there are issues. The JetBlue ticket under her name can’t just be swapped. Expedia says her ticket is basically a lost cause. For my ticket, I can get a $679 flight credit, but only if I cancel, and it expires in 2026.

Hotel part is refundable. I could rebook a two bed room, but that costs more. If my brother comes, he’d need to buy his own flight and prices are brutal right now, like $1,300. Hard to ask him to pay that plus split hotel evenly.

Other option is cancel everything, eat some of the cost, use my flight credit to fly home for the holidays instead, and just be done with it.

I’m also not sure what’s fair with my ex. Do I ask her to Venmo me for her flight even if I cancel and get credit? If I go with my brother and eat her ticket, do I still ask? It’s awkward but it’s also a lot of money.

Not really looking for relationship advice. Just trying to figure out the least painful financial move here. Curious what others would do in this spot or if I’m missing any obvious options.
