Had a flight from ORD to LHR with a connection afterward, but my incoming regional flight was heavily delayed due to multiple issues like weather, staffing shortages, mechanical problems, and gate availability. By the time I landed and got off the plane, I had to rush across the terminal to reach my next gate.
I arrived a few minutes before departure, but the gate door had already been closed. At first, it seemed like I wouldn’t be allowed to board, but after checking my boarding pass, the staff let me on the plane.
Since boarding usually closes about 15 minutes before departure, I was surprised they reopened the door, especially given that I had a basic economy ticket and no status. I’m curious how often something like this actually happens and how lucky I got.
