During boarding for a heavily delayed Lufthansa flight from London Heathrow to Frankfurt, passengers were informed that cabin baggage would be weighed and some items would need to be checked due to a full flight.
Although I had paid for carry-on baggage and my items were within the allowed weight and size limits, I was told at the gate that I must check my suitcase after scanning my boarding pass. I questioned why I was selected, and staff repeatedly stated that “everyone” was required to check their luggage.
However, this was not true, as only a small number of passengers were actually asked to do so while boarding continued normally. Other passengers nearby also questioned the decision, and one was warned about being denied boarding for challenging it.
Despite the enforcement, overhead bins appeared to still have available space during boarding, which made the situation feel inconsistent and unclear.
