I recently checked in for a Lufthansa flight and looked at the seat map, and it felt extremely restrictive.
Almost all window and aisle seats were shown as unavailable, while the only remaining free seats were mostly middle seats or extra-legroom options. This created the impression that standard seats had been blocked off in advance.
It didn’t seem consistent with a fully booked flight, since it’s unlikely that every window and aisle seat was already taken. It feels like many of those seats are being held back unless you pay extra to select them.
This leaves passengers with the choice of either paying to avoid a middle seat or waiting for a random seat assignment at check-in.
It feels frustrating and overly restrictive, especially when premium seats at the front are still available for purchase.
