I’m looking for opinions on a situation I ran into while booking a flight for my mother from Schiphol.
As I was going through the booking process and reaching the payment stage, the price suddenly increased by about 10%. I had no real alternative at that point, so I proceeded with the booking.
When I contacted customer service, they explained that fares are only confirmed at the time of payment and that the price change was due to their pricing algorithm.
I find this quite frustrating and questionable from both a fairness and consumer perspective. It feels unreasonable that the price can change while you are actively completing the booking process without any clear warning or explanation.
I’m curious whether others think this kind of dynamic pricing behavior is acceptable or if it crosses a line in terms of consumer protection.
