I recently checked out from The SOMM Hotel (Autograph Collection) and had a frustrating experience at the front desk.
I attempted to pay using Marriott gift cards that have Delta branding on them. The staff initially refused to accept them, assuming they were Delta-only cards, without verifying. I had to explain that they are Givex-issued cards commonly accepted at Marriott properties before they checked with a manager and processed the payment.
The situation became more awkward during payment. My total bill was $150 for dining (since the room was covered with points), and I chose to use a $60 gift card first, followed by a $250 card. The staff questioned why I didn’t just use the larger card upfront to simplify the process.
Overall, the interaction felt unnecessary and uncomfortable. It seems staff could benefit from better training on accepted payment methods, along with maintaining a more customer-friendly approach during checkout.
