From Birdseed to Art Wall My First Crop Art Experience at the Minnesota State Fair

I’ve admired crop art for years but finally took the plunge and entered my first piece in the Minnesota State Fair this year and wow, this will take forever is no joke. What started as a simple design of a corn cob pipe with a cheeky Magritte twist turned into a full-on meditation-slash-millet-induced breakdown. I glued seeds for hours on end, made questionable choices with poppy seeds, and found millet in my bed days later.

But standing in front of my finished piece at the fair, surrounded by other quirky, thoughtful creations, made every gluey moment worth it. The mix of tradition, humor, and insane patience in this folk art is so uniquely Minnesotan. Has anyone else braved the seed-by-seed life? Thinking of starting next year’s piece now to avoid another all-nighter.
