hi everyone, i’m dealing with a stressful situation regarding an upcoming japan trip planned from april 11 to april 25, 2026.
my friend and i booked flights, airbnbs, and planned the itinerary in advance. i already received my visa about two weeks ago, but my friend’s visa application was recently marked as “terminated” rather than rejected. her agent has advised that she can reapply immediately, but the processing time is estimated to be around 10 working days, which overlaps with our travel dates.
here are the key constraints:
flights are booked under separate pnr numbers
my friend has visa refund coverage, so she can cancel and get refunds
i do not have visa refund coverage since my visa is already approved
our accommodation in osaka and kyoto is non-refundable at this point
postponing the trip would likely increase costs due to peak cherry blossom season and last-minute bookings
we are considering a few options:
she reapplies immediately and we wait until close to departure, which carries risk
postpone the trip entirely, which is safer but more expensive
i proceed with the trip solo and she cancels or potentially joins later if possible
i understand that “terminated” is different from a rejection and may not require a waiting period, but i’m unsure how realistic it is to reapply and receive approval within such a short timeframe.
has anyone experienced a similar situation with a japan visa? is there any possibility of expedited processing, or receiving approval within 7 to 8 working days?
