This is one of those things that sounds fine until you actually try to pick a seat.
Guy books a Blue fare expecting free seat selection, then finds out all the remaining seats require an extra fee anyway. So technically “free”… but only if the right seats are left.
That’s the part that feels off. If most normal seats are labeled “preferred” and cost extra, then what does free selection even mean anymore?
Sounds like one of those policies buried somewhere deep that you only discover after paying.
Not surprised they just rebooked another airline.
