Last month, I stayed at the Four Seasons Hotel New York in Midtown. Thanks to my travel advisor, I was upgraded to a Junior Suite with a Central Park view on a higher floor and was able to enjoy in-room breakfast, which is one of my favorite perks of staying at Four Seasons.
I had heard from my advisor and others that this property isn’t considered one of the strongest luxury hotels in New York, but I wanted to try it myself since I visit NYC often for work and the location is very convenient.
After staying there, I personally would not recommend it and feel there are better luxury options in the city.
The lobby is one of the highlights and really beautiful. One side has the restaurant and the other has a bar and seating area, although some of the seating was roped off during my stay, which reduced available space. There was also live piano music in the evenings, which added a nice atmosphere.
The gym is quite small, even for New York standards, but it has the basic equipment needed for a workout.
The food was fine overall. I had breakfast in my room each morning, but did not try lunch or dinner. The lobby restaurant seemed to be the main dining option.
The hotel does not currently have a full spa. There are limited third-party treatments available in the building, but I did not find it very appealing.
Although the hotel was recently renovated and reopened, the changes felt relatively minor. The junior suite was a decent size, but the furniture and finishes did not feel very luxurious. Some elements felt closer to a business hotel, and the bathroom also felt a bit dated.
Service was okay, but not at the level I usually expect from a Four Seasons property.
Overall, it did not feel like a typical Four Seasons experience, and with so many strong hotel options in New York City, I would likely choose elsewhere next time.
