Just got back from a weekend in Manhattan and wow. I’ve been through foggy days, sure, but this wildfire smoke was something else entirely. Couldn’t even make out the top of the Empire State Building from a few blocks away. Tourists around me were trying to snap pics of the skyline, but all you could see was a gray smudge.
Between the smoke and a brutal heat wave, it was like NYC decided to cosplay as a post-apocalyptic movie set. Props to anyone still doing outdoor tours I ducked into museums and AC-heavy cafes for survival. If you're planning a trip soon, might be worth keeping plans flexible. Not the NYC most people expect in July, that’s for sure.
