Planning a trip from the UK to the US with a connection in Dublin and ran into something confusing while booking.
My son will be about 18 months old and I’d prefer to book him his own seat, not a lap infant. But the Aer Lingus website only lets me select infant, which automatically assigns a lap seat. If I try selecting child, the site throws an error because he’ll still be under 2.
I called customer support and they told me to book the flight with 3 adults plus the infant, then call back afterward to have a seat assigned for him. My concern is that I won’t know the cost of that change until after everything is booked, and they mentioned call center pricing can sometimes be higher than online.
I’d hate to book the whole trip and then find out the price to give him his own seat is way higher than expected.
Also wondering about the car seat situation if he does get his own seat. The website says a car seat “may” be used, which sounds optional, but I’m not sure what the actual rule is.
Has anyone booked a separate seat for an under-2 on Aer Lingus before?
