My family of four was flying from SLC to San Diego to catch a cruise departing at 1pm. The flight was diverted to Palm Springs, first due to weather in San Diego and then because of mechanical issues once we were on the ground in PSP.
The ETA to fix the plane was unclear, and with a hard cruise departure time, we didn’t have much choice. We paid $250 for an Uber from Palm Springs to San Diego and made it to the port just in time.
Alaska wouldn’t let us retrieve our checked bags in Palm Springs, so we boarded the ship without our luggage. I’ve filed a case and they say they’ll try to forward the bags to our next port.
Does Alaska owe anything here? At minimum reimbursement for the Uber? Or is this just considered “irregular operations” and we’re on our own? Curious if anyone’s been in a similar situation.
